We had a winter wedding on the east coast. It was delightfully below freezing (yes, us Los Angeles-dwellers think cold temps are exotic), and a dusting of snow fell right before our ceremony. Fireplaces blazed indoors, I stayed wrapped in faux fur for much of the evening, and guests warmed themselves with artisan cocktails from our most excellent bar. The DJ took a night off from Webster Hall to entertain our reception. The food was outstanding, and my one regret is that I didn’t eat more of it. Our cake. Was. Divine. And topped with Pez dispensers.
When I die, if I can re-live one day of my life, it will be my wedding day. It wasn’t a day for a princess. It was a day for a queen. I felt like I was holding court at the Jasna Polana, an estate once built for two lovers, and celebrating with my oldest friends, my family, and my new family. My fiancé had finally become my husband, and it was a day neither of us will ever forget… for all the right reasons.
I didn’t expect my wedding to turn into a Gatsby fairytale, but it did. See for yourself.
